Kenya Tusks, Horns, and Black Manes

Kenya is one of our preferred countries for safari travel.  Kenya prohibits trophy hunting and First Light Safaris is proud to present four iconic properties during this epic 14 day safari!!  You will witness some of the last remaining elephants in Africa that are adorned with massive tusks during your stay at ol Donyo Lodge, highly endangered rhinos at Solio Lodge, and the famed black-maned lions at Mara Expeditions Camp.  To start and end your safari, relax in luxury at House of Waine and include a visit to the Giraffe Center and the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage.

Day 1House of Waine: Arrive in Nairobi where you are greeted and transferred to the beautiful and luxurious House of Waine located minutes from the Giraffe Center and the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage.  Breakfast is included in your stay.

Day 2 to 5ol Donyo Lodge: Take a morning flight to the stunningly beautiful area located between Tsavo East National Park and Amboseli National Park.  You are greeted by Great Plains Conservation and transferred to their award winning lodge, ol Donyo, which only consists of 7 private suites each with its own plunge pool. It is located within an exclusive and private concession covering 275,000 acres of pristine, wildlife rich wilderness next to the Chyulu Hills National Park.  Over the next 4 days, enjoy a multitude of safari activities; day and night game drives, bush walks, sundowners, cultural experiences, horseback riding, mountain biking and more.  An incredible array of animals await, but this area is known for the bull elephants with massive tusks that reach almost all the way to the ground.  These are some of the last remaining big tuskers in Africa.  Unfortunately poaching and trophy hunting have deprived tourists of seeing these massive specimens throughout Africa.  Kenya’s non-hunting management of its wildlife dates back to the 1970’s which is a big reason you can have this unique opportunity.

Day 6 to 9Solio Lodge: The start to your day will involve two short flights to get to your next destination, The Safari Collection’s Solio Lodge. This luxurious lodge sits in a beautiful valley tucked between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains.  Solio Lodge’s 5 private cottages are located on a 19,000 acre private game reserve which is surrounded by another 45,000 protected acres of exclusive wildlife viewing.  In addition to all the other African animals you’ll see, this area is a vital breeding ground for the highly endangered black and white rhino and your chances of seeing them are excellent.  Activities over the next 4 days include game drives, horseback riding, bush walks, mountain bike excursions, sundowners, and more.

Day 10 to 13; Mara Expedition Camp: You will embark on a morning flight to your next destination, The Masai Mara Reserve.  This incredible area was featured in The Big Cat Diaries, is home to the northern reach of the great wildebeest migration, and is famous for its huge male lions with large black manes. Great Plains Conservation’s Mara Expedition Camp is comprised of only 5 luxurious tented chalets and is your home for the next four days.  Game drives and an optional balloon safari are the main activities offered from here.  Rather just relax in camp?  There is no better setting than Mara Expedition Camp

Day 14; House of Waine: Take a morning flight to Nairobi and stay one final night at the House of Waine.  Unwind and relax before your international flights home.  Take the time to visit the Giraffe Center or the Elephant Orphanage located just minutes away.
