Great Plains Conservation is a leader in sustainable eco-tourism and wildlife conservation. Through their foundation, they are responsible for the protection of 1 million acres of critical wildlife habitat throughout Africa. Great Plains has embarked on a bold initiative to release rhino back into the wilds of Botswana. The rhinos are captured from countries with healthy populations, but threatened by poaching. The rhinos are then released into areas in Botswana that are currently secure from the evils of poaching.
Great Plains Conservation has set the bar high for those looking for the ultimate bush experience. The luxurious accommodations are in very exclusive areas to enjoy wildlife viewing. The attention to detail is evident as soon as you step foot into any of their award-winning properties. It is truly where luxury meets paradise.
Day 1 – You arrive in Maun, Botswana via an international flight. You are welcomed by Great Plains Conservation and then board a bush flight to the heart of the Okavango Delta where you will spend the next 3 nights at Duba Plains Camp.
Duba Plains is located in the heart of the delta on 77,000 acres of exclusive use by Great Plains. You will witness Africa’s iconic wildlife by day and evening game drives. Boating and canoe trips are also another way to experience the magic of the Okavango Delta. You will be in a wildlife paradise with all of Africa’s greatest beasts. Large herds of elephant, huge lions, hippo, leopard, cheetah, rhino, buffalo, lechwe, kudu, sable, and a myriad of bird life all make their home in the 6,000 square miles of the delta.
Leave the heavy camera equipment at home. Each luxurious chalet has a Canon 5D body with a Canon 100-400mm lens for you to capture life as it unfolds in the bush. Additionally, Swarovski 8×42 binoculars are at your disposal throughout your stay.
Day 2 + 3 – Duba Plains Camps Enjoy continued world class wildlife viewing, guides, staff, meals, and accommodations. Relax in your own private plunge pool in the afternoon. Choose between an indoor or outdoor shower or bath to unwind after a morning of wildlife viewing. If it’s a little hot, turn on the ceiling fan for a refreshing breeze. You’ll feel as if you are in a 5 star resort out in the wilderness.
Day 4 – Enjoy your final morning at Duba Plains before you board a bush flight to the Selinda Reserve, located east of the Okavango Delta. You will spend the next 3 nights at Selinda Camp set deep within this 320,000-acre paradise. It truly is one of the wildest remaining places left on earth.
Large herds of buffalo and elephant are commonly seen in the dry season. All the large predators are here also, including the highly-endangered Africa wild dog. Botswana, specifically in the Selinda Reserve, is considered the best place to see these impressive canines. Wild dogs have a hunting success rate of about 75%. So if you see these dogs in action, it very well may lead to witnessing life and death unfold.
Your accommodations are a little more “rustic” by Great Plains standards, but you will no doubt find yourself immersed in paradise with all the fine details one comes to expect when vacationing with this great company. Complimentary Swarovski binoculars are available for use in each guest accommodation.
Day 5 + 6 – Selinda Camp Your wildlife viewing activities are comprised of day and evening game drives with guides that are truly some of the best in the business. You also have the option to embark on a walking safari to truly experience the heartbeat of the bush. Canoe and boat trips round out the list of things to do. Needing a massage? Selinda Camp offers in-room massages to relax the afternoon away with the sounds of nature drifting into your room.
Day 7 – Enjoy your final morning before you set off on a game drive transfer to the ultra-luxurious Zarafa Camp located in a different area of the Selinda Reserve. Great Plains Conservation definitely sets the bar with Zarafa. It is situated along a stunningly beautiful lagoon teaming with life. Just lifting your head from your pillow may be all that you need to see incredible animals.
You will spend the last 3 nights here in luxury in the middle of the African wilderness. Your activities again include day and evening game drives, guided bush walks, canoe trips, and boat cruises. Just like at Duba Plains, you will have complimentary use of a Canon camera with a 100-400mm lens and Swarovski binoculars.
Day 8 + 9 – Zarafa Camp World class game viewing with exceptionally trained and experienced guides continue. All that Botswana has to offer is on full display, even from your private veranda. Enjoy in-room massages after a morning of tracking wildlife.
Day 10 – Enjoy your final morning in the bush. You just experienced one of the wildest places on earth with unmatched comfort that has become a signature of Great Plains Conservation.
